The kitchen is the hardest-working room in any home, and it shows. Grease, food residue and bacteria accumulate quickly — especially in areas like the oven, rangehood and behind appliances. A thorough deep clean not only makes your kitchen look great, it also improves hygiene and extends the life of your appliances.

Before you start, gather your supplies so you can work through the kitchen without stopping.
- Degreaser or oven cleaner
- All-purpose kitchen spray
- Microfibre cloths and sponges
- Scrubbing brush or old toothbrush for grout
- Rubber gloves
- Mop and bucket
- Bin liners
Step 1: The Oven
The oven is often the most neglected appliance in the kitchen. Remove the racks and soak them in hot soapy water. Apply oven cleaner to the interior and leave it to work according to the product instructions. Wipe out thoroughly, clean the door glass inside and out, and replace the clean racks.
Step 2: Rangehood and Stovetop
Remove the rangehood filters and soak them in hot water with degreaser. Wipe down the rangehood exterior and the area above the stovetop. Clean the stovetop thoroughly, removing any burner grates or drip trays and soaking them if needed.
Step 3: Benchtops and Splashbacks
Clear everything off the benchtops and wipe them down with an all-purpose cleaner. Pay attention to the edges and corners where crumbs accumulate. Clean the splashback with a degreaser, scrubbing any stubborn spots with a sponge.
Step 4: Cupboards and Drawers
Wipe down the outside of all cupboard doors and handles. Empty each cupboard and drawer, wipe out the interior, and replace items neatly. Discard any expired food or items you no longer use.
Step 5: Sink and Taps
Scrub the sink with a suitable cleaner, paying attention to the drain and any staining around the basin. Polish the taps with a dry cloth to remove water marks and restore shine.
Step 6: Fridge
Remove all items from the fridge and check expiry dates. Remove shelves and drawers and wash them in warm soapy water. Wipe down the interior walls and door seals, then replace the clean shelves and restock.
Step 7: Floors
Sweep or vacuum the floor thoroughly, moving appliances if possible to clean underneath. Mop with a suitable floor cleaner, paying attention to corners and the area around the bin.
